Fixing "steam_api64.dll is missing" error

Steam is a gaming platform with its huge catalog of games and various applications. If you downloaded the game from the .torrent and did not buy it in the Steam, you have all chances to face steam_api64.dll is missing error. Probably your antivirus system most likely moved it to quarantine or deleted at all, without the possibility of recovery.



Usually, the owners of legal copies of games the steam_api64.dll is missing error does not appear. But still, there are several solutions, as always. You can reinstall the Steam client. Uninstall the current version, then download and install the latest version. In this case, the error will disappear.

If you do not want to reinstall Steam, you can just download the steam_api64.dll file and put it in the appropriate folder.

  1. Go to the root directory of the game.
  2. Rename the old steam_api.dll file to old_steam_api.dll.
  3. This will save this file from being overwritten by the new one and will allow you to restore the game to its initial state, if the new file does not help.
  4. Now put the new file steam_api64.dll or steam_api.dll (For 32 bit Windows) to the game folder. 
  5. Try to run the game.

If everything is OK - it will start, if the error remains - try to reinstall it with the antivirus disabled and on behalf of the Administrator.
